How To Conceal Acne

Acne affects people to varying degrees but in many cases it results in an unsightly appearance which often last for a considerable period of time and which many sufferers will go to extraordinary lengths to conceal. So, just how do you go about concealing acne?

For women covering up acne is both difficult and easy. Difficult because women tend to be judged more on their looks and easy because they have a lot of tools to work with including the most obvious - makeup.

One tip when it comes to makeup is to look for products which are labeled 'non-comedogenic' (comedone' is the term generally used for some types of mild acne, including whiteheads and blackheads).

For most women the first line of defense is a concealer and the redness which often accompanies burst pimples or, in more severe cases, cysts can be covered up very well. Just dab it onto the affected area and work it over with a disposable sponge, but don't overdo it.

Using a good foundation can also help to blend tones together but, once again, try not to overdo it. An even covering of foundation can do a very good job of masking blemishes and blending it in well so that you get an even color overall is the key.

Foundation can also help in another way by providing a less reflective surface than skin so that it softens shadows and lessens the contrast produced by the bumps which frequently occur with acne.

Finally, a light powder to finish has all the benefits mentioned so far and can even out color tones and reduce shadows and contrast.

Although men typically do not wear makeup there are several specially formulated acne covering compounds which can help them to cover up acne. Indeed, many over-the-counter medications include makeup-like compounds designed to hide acne. However, makeup for men is also an option and is typically much more subtle (and generally less effective than womens' makeup) and many men do find the results helpful.
