Acne scars fall into two broad categories.

In the first scars are formed by a loss of skin leaving you with icepick, indented or depressed scars.

In the second fibrotic, hypertrophic or keloid scars result from the formation of abnormal thickened tissue.

When it comes to treating severe scaring then it may well be necessary to seek professional treatment which may include such things as dermabrasion, light and heart therapy and surgery. However, when your scarring is not too severe then acne scars cream may well to the trick.

Acne scar creams work to dissolve the damaged (scar) tissue and replace it with new tissue and is a simple matter of applying the cream twice a day for a period of weeks.

Just how long you will need to apply the cream will depend upon the degree of scarring present and just how well your skin reacts to the cream. In many cases however noticeable changes appear within a matter of just a few weeks.
