Acne Cream Renin-A

Retin-A, or Retirides, is the brand name for the drug tretinoid or vitamin A acid and is used to control, but not to cure, acne. Retin-A works by improving the blood supply to the skin and promoting the peeling of dead skin cells from the acne affected areas and unclogging the pores of the skin.

Retin-A is normally available in strengths of 0.05% and 0.1% and, despite the fact that these numbers might seems very small, the 0.1% cream is strong enough that it should not be used unless you have first tried the 0.05% cream and found that it is not as effective as you would wish and that it does not cause you to suffer from undue side effects.

As with most medications designed to clear acne, there are a number of possible side effects including slight stinging; redness; blistering, swelling or crusting of the skin and lightening or darkening of the skin. Retin-A will also make your skin especially sensitive to sunlight and this should be avoided wherever possible. If you do need to venture out into the sun then you should cover up or use a strong sunscreen.

It should also be noted that Retin-A may well have the effect of bringing existing acne spots which are forming below the skin to the surface and thus make it appear as though it is actually making the condition worse rather than curing it. This is normal and it may take several weeks of treatment before you begin to see any benefit.
